How to prevent bladder stones (calcium oxalate) in dogs?

My 10 pound yorkie had a cystotomy to remove his calcium oxalate stones this monday.

I did a little research and checked Hills U/D and Royal Canin Urinary, but both of those have alot of corn/rice which isn't good for dogs.

Does anyone know of a good prescription dog food, premium quality, that doesn't contain by-products and such?

Or do I have to go with the above listed food for it's low protein and minerals? How to prevent bladder stones (calcium oxalate) in dogs?

Even though having a lot of corn/rice in dog food isn't a great diet, having to go through surgery again to remove the stones would be worse for him, health-wise.

I have a cat that just had this surgery. An important thing in their diet is to make sure they get plenty of water, and that canned or wet food is better than dry food for keeping the urine dilute, which helps to prevent the stones from forming again.

Ask your vet if giving potassium citrate supplements would be of benefit. Good luck.
