How to stop constipation in a 5 month old who has been on solids for about a month?

I'm breast feeding exclusively. I've tried giving him water. The solids I'm giving him are pears, peach, apples with prune juice. - All things that are supposed to help with constipation, but yet he still struggles to get his poos out. He cries like it hurts, and it's quite hard when it comes out. Any suggestions to help make it softer? I've asked the dr and the nurse but they weren't much help. How to stop constipation in a 5 month old who has been on solids for about a month?

We had the same problem with our kid, She went 5 days without a bowel movement and we brought her to the doc who gave her an enema. He said to put baby oil on a q-tip and stick it where the sun don't shine to lube up is track. It worked well. Just be careful in case it works too well.
I'd back off on the solids for a few weeks. It sounds like his mouth is writing checks his colon can't cash. Breastmilk is providing all the nutrition he needs right now, and the solids are just for practice.
My daughter was a preemie and has always had trouble having bowel movements. The Dr. told me to try Activia yogurt and believe it or not it works. You have to give it to the baby everyday but it worked for me.
